Collectively, ACHR Affordable Housing features well over 400 individual and family residential units—some of which are senior-designated. Each of the properties offer handicap-accessible units.
ACHR is committed to the development of Affordable Housing Properties in communities throughout Alabama where housing options for those with low income are inadequate.
Working with a private-sector developer in 1994, ACHR developed the Oakridge Affordable Housing Properties in Auburn through HUD’s HOME Investment Partnerships Program. Since then, in conjunction with private-sector entities, ACHR has developed additional properties of about the same size and currently has 12 complexes, five of them in Lee County. In 1997, the Federal Home Loan Bank in Atlanta awarded ACHR and Auburn Bank the Partnership Excellence Award for one of those subsequent complexes, Darden Oaks in Opelika.
(Note: Affordable Housing Properties are intended to provide residents with a temporary bridge out of a difficult housing situation and, ultimately, into a residence of their own. As such, while recognizing that every situation is different and poses its own unique challenges, residence in an apartment—except for those expressly designed for long-term senior tenancy—should be considered as relatively short-term.)
