The goal of the Fatherhood program is to encourage and support responsible fathering, increase fathers’ understanding of the importance of being involved with their children, and give fathers positive direction in involvement with their children.
We encourage all Head Start/Early Head Start fathers and father figures to join us.
It does not matter whether they live in or outside the child’s home. The important thing is that children have positive, supportive male role models in their lives.
Children do not come with instruction books. Schools do not teach it. If we did not learn from a positive male role model growing up, we did not get it.
Small groups of fathers have begun meeting to learn more about a variety of areas, including how to support and encourage their child’s learning and love of literacy. Currently a group of fathers and father figures meets once a month early in the morning at each of our centers.
In addition to learning to be a positive role model, fathers are encouraged to do what is needed to put themselves in the best position to support their children. Areas of focus include job exploration, remaining in school, and returning to school or training.
