Donate goods the agency can use or that can be shared with families through the Sunshine Shop at Avenue E Bldg 1 (behind Darden Center at 601 S. 4th in Opelika). 1st Bldg on the left
Right now we especially need:
- Van, SUV or truck for transporting goods to and from the Sunshine Shop.
The following items are always especially needed and welcome:
- Children’s clothing, socks, underwear, etc.
- Old cell phones with chargers to use as emergency contact devices. (Even without cell service, a charged cellphone will dial 911.) We use some of these in our classrooms (we want each classroom to have one) and donate others to women who live with potential violence.
- Computers or tablets in working condition capable of running educational programs suitable for pre-school children are especially needed and VERY much appreciated.
- Educational computer programs appropriate for pre-school children and early elementary.
- Books for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. We use some of these to replenish our classroom lending libraries so children can check out books. When we have more than we need, we give books to parents to help them increase their at home libraries.
- Toys (puzzles, blocks, etc.) and books appropriate for infants, toddlers and pre-school age group especially appreciated.
- Young children’s DVD including those based on books
- Books, games and other materials appropriate for children up to age 12 (for our after school wrap program; some of the children are advanced readers)
- School supplies
- Children’s clothing in good condition (especially underwear and socks— sizes 3T and 4T are most needed)
- Disposable diapers
- Household goods (e.g., dishes, sheets, towels, and even appliances that still work).
- Adult clothing (especially larger sizes) suitable for wearing to/looking for work.
- Household items (toaster, curling iron etc.) that do not work – we use them in classrooms for pretend play
- Items that could be used for dress-up clothing or paint smocks
